Our people

Some 2,536 people are employed in the factory, 90% of them women. Health and safety are the top priorities in the factory, so all new employees are monitored and trained so that they are able to perform each operation first and foremost safely, as well as efficiently. In addition, when a new employment opportunity arises in the factory, priority is always given to the workers already present in the company: Alpha is renowned for the opportunities for advancement offered to its employees, and this is further confirmed by the absence in the company of permanent expatriates.

The factory offers a wide range of bonuses to all its employees: from free transport to the creation of low-interest loans for the purchase of a home or vehicle, as well as free counselling services, basic and further training courses. In addition, all employees are guaranteed free breakfast and lunch at a symbolic price. The meritocracy that governs employee assessment is a central feature of personnel management, and aims to reward the most deserving workers with wage increases and annual bonuses, as well as developing in-company career paths.

Benefits for the community

The company believes in supporting not only its employees, but also the community that is home to the factory. Among the projects developed by Alpha, two particularly important ones have been implemented during this last year. The first is called “Hasarellak Soya” (In search of a smile), and seeks to provide help and support both to children in local orphanages and to elderly people in difficulty. The second is called “Mihikathata Thurusewanak” (Shade for the earth) and is a programme for planting and reforestation in the areas around the factory, with a view to supporting the environment and the biodiversity of the local area.

completing my studies. Since I had no work experience, I immediately started a training course to learn how to work on the sewing machines, and eight months later, I was promoted to head of my team. In 2016, my performance had improved so much that they decided to promote me to the position of Technician.
Since I began my career, I’ve realised how essential my work is for the company. I’ve learned a lot over the last ten years, and I’ve met a lot of different people, each with their own characteristics and abilities. Taking these differences into account as we work towards a common objective is the most challenging – but also the most exciting – aspect of my role.

apprentice mechanic. Initially, I never imagined I’d have the chance to learn and improve so much within the company, but the role I was given was perfect for me, and in 2006, my determination earned me a promotion to Chief Mechanic. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, which lasted about 14 years, until 2019, when I became chief mechanic, the highest position I could achieve in my department. When I look back, I realise how many achievements and how much satisfaction I have been able to obtain during my working life, and I’m very proud of each one of them. Today my aim, shared by my team, is to reduce machine downtime to zero.
